News

Haiti

At our rehearsal on Thursday 14 January 2010 our minds were full of the terrible news of the devastating earthquake in Haiti.

Seeing as we had been invited to take part in the fundraising efforts for the tsunami relief a few years ago we wanted to do a similar effort for this new devastation.

We decided to busk in front of the town hall in Chester on the following Saturday and see what happened.

The signs were good when we got people putting £20 notes in our collecting buckets before we started even playing.

At the end of an hour and a half of extremely enjoyable and enthusiastic playing led by the unstoppable Dave we decided to let Chester get back to some peace and quiet as we went to Telfords Warehouse for a well deserved drink and to count up our takings.

We were bowled over to discover (after a lot of counting) that we had taken just a few pounds short of two thousand pounds; well done the people of Chester.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

We would like to say thank you to everybody involved with Karamba Samba, especially the people who look after, and transport, the instruments to and from each rehearsal and gig – namely the band members themselves. We appreciate the hard work you do, which makes all this possible. You are a great team.

Also thanks to the secretary and treasurer for keeping us organised, and a special mention for the skills of the graphic designer and the website design team.

We would also like to express our gratitude to the people who support Karamba Samba by listening to our music and turning up at our gigs. We hope you continue to enjoy our performances.

ONGOING SUPPORT

Karamba Samba continues to make regular donations to the SOS Children's Village in Brazil, an independent charity that focuses on neglected and abandoned children as well as disadvantaged families.

WORLD MUSIC

Karamba Samba has performed at the opening day's ceremonies of the Llangollen International Music Eisteddfod for several years. This world-renowned festival of music, song and dance is a great opportunity for the band members to meet and perform alongside people from around the globe. In spite of the Welsh rain, we still have a great time each year.
